《Defense ... partners spinning, matching perfectly, aggression rising, front and back, so still, still life...》는 박보마와 장다해의 2인전이자 주어진 물리적, 상징적인 장벽을 두고 벌어진 대화다. 반드시 필요하지만 위협적인, 상상력을 불러일으키지만 구현하고자 하는 이상을 제한하는 미술 공간의 환경이나 시스템, 습관이나 언어에 맞서거나 화해하기 위해 박보마와 장다해, 그리고 기획자 유지원은 서로를 지지하고 보호해주는, 하지만 그 시도가 때로는 실패하여 오히려 공격을 가하게 되는 관계를 맺기로 한다. 그 장면은 주어진 공간에 대한 적극적인 사용자가 적절한 내벽으로서 제시한 페인팅과 가볍고 연약한, 심상일 뿐인 석고 오브제를 고정시켜 특정 시점에서만 온전해 보이는 가구 조각이 이루는 정물(still life)로 구현된다. 서로라면 괜찮을 거라 신뢰하며 뛰어내리기(trust fall)와 결국 배틀이 될지도 모른다는 긴장이 공존한다. 더불어 대화의 출발점이 되었던 장다해와 박보마의 디지털 드로잉이 서로 겹쳐지거나 부딪히고 슬라이딩하는 상태로 웹페이지(https://bomaxdahae.cargo.site/)에 공개된다.
*Defense in Motion은 4월 1일부터 4월 7일 중 복수의 평면과 오브제가 내딛는 스텝과 긴장을 일정시간동안 제한된 구역에서 노출하는 이벤트다. 이 기간 동안 작품 설치 및 촬영 등 여러 움직임이 펼쳐지며, 관객은 아직 경화되지 않은 상태의 상호작용을 마주하게 된다.
Defense ... partners spinning, matching perfectly, aggression rising, front and back, so still, still life... is a two-person show of Boma Pak and Chang Dahae and a conversation about the given physical and symbolic barrier. The two artists and curator Jiwon Yu attempt to confront or make peace with the system, conventions, and language of the art space that is necessary but at times threatening, inspirational yet limiting. Their tackle took the form of a fleeting coalition, supporting one another yet potentially failing to do so, resulting in contention. The motions culminate in oddly bygone still life-like scenes with paintings presented as befitting walls within walls by a proactive user of the given space and furniture pieces made with light, fragile, distant plaster objects that appear to be wholesome only in certain angles. There coexist the air of trust falls and the tension of potential battles.
Defense in Motion (April 1-7, 1-3pm) is an event where steps and tension of multiple planes and objects are exposed in a given time to be viewed from designated spots. In the duration of Defense in Motion, various movements, including installation of the works and documentation, take place while visitors are welcome to encounter interactions against a wet backdrop.
